Backup Options

In this section, you can configure various options for the 'Backup' copy mode.

Table of Contents

  • General Options
  • Create backup folder in destination
  • Backup generations

General Options

  • Perform backup only if archive attribute is set
Executes the backup only if the archive attribute is set for at least one file in the source folder.
  • Copy log file to backup folder
Copies the log of the copy operation to the backup folder.
  • Create differential backup based on full backup
Compares the source folder with an existing full backup and copies only changed or new files to the new backup folder.
Requirement: The backup folder must be empty.
Date and time placeholders (enclosed in %...%) can be used in the path to the full backup. Example: C:\Backup\%yy%-%ww%Options
    • Create hard links
Creates hard links for all files in the full backup that have not been modified in the source folder.
Advantage: A new full backup is created without re-copying identical files.
Requirement: Full backup and backup folder must be located on the same local NTFS drive.

Create backup folder in destination

Creates a new backup folder in the destination folder where the data will be copied. If the 'Automatically create source folder in destination folder' option is enabled, the folder structure order can also be defined.

Name format for the backup folder

The following placeholders are available:
PlaceholderDescription
%P%Profile name
%S%Last folder name of the source path
%KW%Calendar week according to DIN 1355
Format characterDate and time
Environment variablesWindows system variables
Note: Text that should not be interpreted as a placeholder must be enclosed in quotation marks.

Examples:

Name formatResult
"%P%" (yy_mm_dd hh_nn_ss)Profile name (17_08_25 16_10_08)
{yy-mm-dd hh-nn-ss} "%P%"{25-08-17 16-10-08} Profile name
"Backup on" yyyy-mm-dd hh_nn_ssBackup on 2025-08-17 16_10_08
"Backup" ddddBackup Monday
"Backup %KW%.Week" dd.mm.yyyyBackup 33.Week 17.08.2025

Backup generations

Limits the number of backups in the destination folder.
You can define either a maximum number or a time period in days. Old backups are deleted at the start of a copy operation based on their creation date.
  • If 'Create backup folder in destination' is enabled, the evaluation is based on all existing folders.
  • If only 'Compress files' is enabled, the evaluation is based on all ZIP files in the destination folder.
Important: Make sure that only backup data from this profile is located in the destination folder — otherwise, unrelated data may be deleted by mistake.

Move data to new backup when deleting old backups
When this option is enabled, all data from an old backup is moved to the new backup folder during deletion. Advantage: For full backups, the data does not need to be copied again from the source folder.
Note: This option is not available when the backup is created as a ZIP file.
